When:

Self-taught chef, Marcus Bean, whose passion for cooking drove him to win Iron chef UK in 2010 on Channel 4, has lived in pubs since the age of 5 in and around Oxfordshire.

Moving to Shropshire at the age of 16 when his parents bought a pub in the county, he has since made it his home.

Marcus and his wife Jenny first ran their own pub, and after two years of employing Chefs, only to be let down, Marcus decided he’d get in the kitchen and began teaching himself how to cook from scratch, creating new and exciting dishes, and the rest is history. After successfully running the pub for 5 years, Marcus found himself being selected as a contestant for Channel 4’s Iron Chef UK. He breezed through the first two rounds, and went on to beat top chef Martin Blunos in the final!

Following his success on the show, Marcus became a regular chef on ITV’s This Morning, cooking for Holly Willoughby & Phillip Schofield initially, followed by various other presenters on the show, including the latest duo, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.

Other television appearances include Good Food Channel’s “Market Kitchen”, Channel 4′s “What’s Cooking” & “Drop Down Menu”. Food Network’s Christmas special with Matt Tebutt & Lisa Faulkner. Online appearances include, BBC online “video recipes with Lisa Faulkner”. And in 2011, Marcus reached the semi-finals of National chef of the year with the Craft guild of Chefs.

Marcus has also written cookery articles & recipes for Hello Magazine, Foodie magazine London, Delicious magazine, Now magazine, Closer,  Shropshire Magazine & Stir it up magazine, and his first book ‘Chicken’ has recently been republished.

Marcus is now the regular host of the Super theatre at the BBC Good Food Shows around the country, working on stage with James Martin, Paul Hollywood, Mary Berry, Michel Roux Junior, Tom Kerridge and many more.
